Maintenance Engineering

Configuration & Records Management

In the aviation industry, there is a need to coordinate thousands of maintenance requirements imposed by multiple organizations (manufacturers, regulators, operators, etc.), and executed by thousands of workers at numerous locations worldwide. Detailed, traceable records of all configuration changes, faults, and maintenance actions are essential to ensure and verify regulatory compliance. In today's competitive aviation industry, accurate and timely tracking of in-service configuration and historical records is more than just a regulatory requirement – it is a business imperative.

With its Configuration & Records Management features, the Maintenance Engineering module of Maintenix offers the tools needed to manage logical component configuration data. The logical configuration describes the hierarchy of components that make up the aircraft, including the allowable configuration of assets, part relationships and dependencies, primary and alternate parts for each configuration, and compatibility rules (i.e. what components are permitted based on part number, effectivity, etc.). This allowable configuration model is used by all other Maintenix modules to perform data validation, and to enforce these "rules of attachment" at the time that maintenance is scheduled and executed, and at the time that materials are requisitioned.

Throughout the lifecycle, Maintenix tracks the "as flown" usage status and the "as maintained" configuration of the aircraft. Maintenix provides total visibility into the status and history of all assets — both on-wing and off-wing. The system records all data into an electronic logbook at the individual serialized component level, including usage data, faults, maintenance due dates, maintenance history, etc. As parts are removed, repaired, stored, and installed, this data remains tied to the component and "follows" it as it is moved, maintained, and used. Using this unique "component-centric" approach, Maintenix captures all transaction information at the "point of maintenance" to ensure that configuration and maintenance data are kept in near real time.

Maintenix facilitates compliance management and reporting by allowing all requirements from all sources to be modeled in a single system, including Maintenance Review Boards (MRB); ADs, SBs, and MODs from the regulators and OEMS; Corrosion Prevention & Control Programs (CPCP); Minimum Equipment List (MEL) items, Deferred Maintenance Items (DMIs), and non-routines (NRs). For all of these requirements, Maintenix stores information on the scheduling rules, the "segmentation" – that is, how you choose to group the requirements together into work packages – and effectivities as part of the maintenance requirement record. As a technician does each task, the work execution data (such as parts removed and installed, faults found, corrective actions taken, who did the work, who signed it off, and when, etc.) is inherently tied back to the maintenance requirement for compliance reporting. In this manner, Maintenix improves efficiency and accuracy of compliance data by making technical record-keeping a byproduct of doing the work.

To round out its comprehensive technical records management functionality, the Maintenance Engineering module also provides critical functions such as: audit trails (e.g. who signed off the work and when), locking of records, archiving, and compliance reporting. The rigorous configuration & records management provided by Maintenix ensures that regulatory compliance is met. Maintenix can produce all of the records necessary for compliance audits, on demand. This ability to provide all compliance information from within a single system eliminates the often tedious - and sometimes impossible - effort of piecing together configuration and maintenance data from multiple systems and incomplete sources.
